2010 marks a new beginning for many of us. For me personally, I felt impressed that this year will center round the theme of sacrifice. This, I purposed since late last year, will guide my plans for my life and ministry in 2010. Sacrifice is best illustrated when Christ said, "Not my will, but Yours be done!" I see sacrifice directly linked to the concept of servant leadership, most beautifully demonstrated in Jesus' life. Hence, I have chosen over the next few months to share on my personal reflection on servant leadership, as inspired from scripture, and the books I had to read for my post-graduate studies in Organizational Leadership. You will find traces of concepts from Robert Greenleaf, of whom I have drawn much inspiration from his writings. |

I have always advocated that the fastest way to learn something is to learn from a mentor. If I desire to grow in leadership, I should learn from a great leader. If I desire to grow in preaching, I could accelerate my personal growth by gleaning from great preachers. This is the power of mentoring.
Madame Guyon is known as one of the greatest spiritual teacher in prayer and intimacy. Through my research, I have found some simple but powerful key truths that Madame Guyon embraced in her spirituality. My earnest desire is for you to grow deeper in prayer and intimacy with God as you reflect on the writings below. |

Programs, books rarely change people. They are but tools. They are but avenues to direct people to the true essence. In the case of Christianity, the truth is God. Our aim as Christians is to know God. This knowledge goes deeper beyond the superficiality of a mere religion. This knowing of GOD is the experience of God as ultimate TRUTH and REALITY in our life; body, soul and spirit.
A God experience breaks us into His divine presence; where it leads to our life transforming moment; a turning point in life. I have found the writings on Quietism intriguing. They lead me to thirst for more of God's presence, intimacy and reality. I believe when divinity touches humanity, something powerful happens. When God's divinity touches our frail humanity, that's when we truly know what it meant when it says, "We love because He FIRST loved us."

Experiencing God in Prayer
The life of Madame Guyon is my preoccupation this season as I studied about Quietism - a mystical movement in church history in the seventeenth century namely championed by Michael Molinos (Spain), Madame Guyon and Francis Fenelon (France). I did some extensive research through the library and over the internet to source out more information. In a period of 1 week, I delved into her autobiography, key writings and journal articles; much to my amazement, I dived deep into a learning journey. |

Genesis 3:1 records the account where the cunning serpent whispered to the woman in the garden “Did God really say…?” A simple statement as it seems to be. Yet this question masks a heidous scheme against humanity.
Why is this so?

It has been a while since I have updated my blog. Busyness has been what is keeping me from it. Yet again, busyness is not a bad thing; especially when you know there is meaning and purpose behind each activity. Yet the very act juggling the various responsibilities is not an easy task. Balancing preaching, preparation for public talks, seminars, coaching leaders, completing a Master Course in Theology, starting a second Master of Art program in Organizational Leadership, helping my wife in her business, making time deliberately to be with the kids - that has been my life since the start of this year. Balancing has become a word of difficulty to me. Why? It is hard to find balance in life. This is reality; a fact of life. What I have learnt recently from my lecturer is that it is wiser to embrace “DYNAMIC TENSION”. Tension is not a bad word. There are redemptive natures to it. Let me illustrate. |

Jesus exhorts us with a famous saying in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” God is omnipresent. He is everywhere. Yet we often do not feel Him or are unconscious of His abiding presence. We are instead caught in the rut of our feelings and our struggles. So, where is God? Is He anywhere near to be found? |

About 3 years ago, a friend lent me a book by Floyd McClung Jr. It was on the topic “The Father Heart of God”. Reading the book left me deeply impacted. Just recently, in the midst of my coaching and preaching engagements, I found myself talking about God our FATHER. Our victories in life only go as far as our concept of who God is and who we are made in Him. If ever we want to draw close to God, we need to have a right concept of who HE IS — as revealed in Scriptures. Join me today to practice God’s presence by meditating on the Father Heart of God. |

I bought this book “100 days in the Secret Place” by Gene Edwards. Here, the author gathered the writings of 3 Christian mystics from the 17th century — Michael Molinos, Madam Guyon and Francois Fenelon — and challenges Christians to walk deeper in God. This has recently become one of my devotional readings. |
