Psalm 101: 1 - I will sing of your love and justice; to you, O Lord, I will sing praise. Worship, as one author puts it, is to sing the love songs God gives. Worship is about being consumed with the PERSONALITY of God. Worship has the ability to change our focus - from self to God. This morning while on my way to work, I had 2 hymns of which I first learnt in my teenage years ringing in my ears. They are ”What a Friend we have in Jesus” & “Trust and Obey”. As I sang the songs God gave, it was a godly reminder to know that we have a FRIEND in Jesus and we can TAKE IT TO THE LORD in prayer. Regardless of any situation, God is only a prayer away. God hears the silent prayers we utter within. I just need to “TRUST and OBEY FOR THERE IS NO OTHER WAY, TO BE HAPPY IN JESUS BUT TO TRUST & OBEY”. These old songs of worship were divinely inspired and given to the original authors years ago; for them to sing and lead people into a REVELATION of GOD. It was not only relevant in the past. They are also appropriate and good reminders for our present and future. Good worship songs go deeper beyond just having a good tune. It (through the lyrics) must lead people to a deeper knowledge of God. That, to me, is a criteria I use to assess if a worship song is good. It must bring people closer to God. As I silently hummed the tune of these songs, I was gently reminded of God’s goodness and faithfulness. I caught a glimpse of His character. I felt closer to God or rightly put it, God drew me closer to Him today. That should be the way worship is to be. More than just having a good melody, it must bring us into God’s presence. My prayer for us today: May we be drawn by His Spirit to speak psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. May we sing and make music in our heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything (Ephesians 5:19). May we be drawn to fall in love with Jesus each day. AMEN - So let it be Lord! Rev. Bryan Tan Bryan Tan Ministries Lifting People into their Destinies
